PM: Women's Economic Empowerment is an Important Step Forward

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that in order for women to be able to completely and fully participate in socioeconomic activities, strengthening the economic capacity and resilience of women is essential and indispensable.

Addressing the Closing Ceremony of the Second ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit on Wednesday afternoon, 12 October 2022, Prime Minister Hun Sen encouraged ASEAN member states to guarantee vocational training, ownership of financial resource management, decision-making rights, and leadership for women to give them full opportunities to participate in the economy, both the commercial and political aspects.

"Women are the core of the family and the community, if women are strong, our family and the ASEAN community will be strong as well," said Prime Minister Hun Sen. “In this sense, promoting women's entrepreneurship is an important task that can provide and increase opportunities for women to participate in economic activities to improve their livelihoods and families, as well as to participate in development and integration in our ASEAN socio-economy for the better."

The Second ASEAN Women Leaders’ Summit was held under the theme "Building a More Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Future: Unlocking Women's Entrepreneurship in ASEAN" with the participation of many ASEAN leaders and partner countries, reflecting the association’s commitment to unity and cooperation to promote women's entrepreneurship in the region.

The Prime Minister has said that he believes the ASEAN Women Leaders' Summit will continue to be a platform for inspiring and motivating women in the ASEAN region, and encourages the association to continue holding this summit in the coming years, as a testament to the commitment of ASEAN leaders in achieving gender equality across the region.
